Fierce

Fierce is the men’s Eau de Cologne Abercrombie & Fitch launched in 2002, the brand’s very first fragrance. Carlos Benaïm, Christophe Laudamiel and Bruno Jovanovic composed it at IFF. The house classifies it as a woody aromatic and cites a marine breeze, sandalwood, a sensual musk and sage. Sprayed throughout the brand’s stores, it became its olfactory signature.

Abercrombie & Fitch now presents Fierce as a woody aromatic: a marine breeze in the top, sandalwood in the heart and a sensual musk in the base. Interparfums, which produces the fragrance, reverses the last two tiers; sage, cited in 2019, is assigned to none.

Christophe Laudamiel describes a fuller formula: a pino acetaldehyde with the effect of an ocean breeze, set on clary sage, cucumber, a hint of lemon, lavandin grosso, moss, tonka bean, a synthetic sandalwood, a white musk and Cashmeran.

Carlos Benaïm’s starting accord already combined woody and ambery IFF molecules, Grisalva, Cashmeran and Iso E Super, with a sage oil. The base the brand selected brought together, according to Laudamiel, sage, cucumber, sandalwood, musk and oakmoss.

The long list repeated by many retail sites, with fir, lemon, orange, petitgrain, cardamom, jasmine, lily of the valley, rosemary, rose, rosewood, oakmoss, vetiver and musk, is not among the notes the house publishes, and Laudamiel disputes it.
