Boucheron: When the celebrated jeweler perfumes us with its treasures

A pioneer of luxury jewelry, Frédéric Boucheron has adorned the necks and ears of the world's greatest ladies since the beginning of the 20th century. Naturally, when the house of Boucheron decided to create a perfumery line, the bottles designed by the master jewelers were at least as precious as their fragrances. Far more than through flashy advertising campaigns, the discreet and resplendent house has shone its aura through four great, iconic fragrances of the 80s and 90s.

The birth of the Boucheron myth and a cult ring-bottle

The house of Boucheron, specializing in luxury jewelry, was born in 1958 in the luxurious premises of the Palais Royal. Honored for the beauty of his creations at the Paris World's Fair, Frédéric Boucheron, a renowned jeweler from his earliest days, had the luxury of choosing his location on Place Vendôme, becoming the very first to settle there!

26 Place Vendôme, now a reference for the whole world, would go on to create jewelry as resplendent as it was chic for clients as famous as the Duke of Windsor, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, and even Sarah Bernhardt and Rita Hayworth. Boucheron embodies French luxury, Parisian elegance, and the refinement of sumptuous, legendary jewelry.

Naturally, when the house of Boucheron ventured into perfume creation, bottles had to be created worthy of the creative artistry of Boucheron jewelry. Thus the first fragrance to launch in 1988, Boucheron Femme, was adorned with an exceptionally beautiful jewel-bottle that made it known as much for its subtle floral, oriental, and fruity scents as for its bottle topped with a ring crafted around a sapphire-blue cabochon.

The success of Boucheron Femme was such that customers of the time flocked to Place Vendôme to obtain a piece of jewelry similar to the famous ring bottle, which had to be created from scratch since it originally existed only for the perfume. Although the Boucheron Femme fragrance has since been discontinued, it was reissued in 2011 to the great delight of lovers of this legendary brand.

Boucheron perfumery, or perfumed works of art

After the phenomenal success of what came to be called the ring bottle, Boucheron perfumery created its first men's fragrance in 1989, this time inspired by luxury watchmaking, notably the famous Reflets watch model, soberly named Boucheron pour Hommes.

In 1994 and 1998, Boucheron perfumery enthusiasts were able to enjoy two beautiful fragrances inspired by founder Frédéric Boucheron's venerable travels to India: Jaipur and Jaipur pour Hommes. The fragrances, always dressed in precious jewel-bottles, still featured sapphire blue and golden godrons, offering floral and fruity scents for women and gentle spicy notes for men.

In 2000, the acquisition of the Boucheron perfumery line by Gucci Group disrupted its success, and despite fine fragrances such as Initial in 2000, Trouble launched in 2002, Miss Boucheron in 2007, or B de Boucheron released in 2008, the brand lost some of its legendary aura.
Fortunately, at the end of 2010, the brand was acquired, and the determination to return to the fundamentals of the 80s prevailed. The head of the Boucheron group recounted that they decided to focus on the greatness of Boucheron fragrances from the 80s: Boucheron pour Femmes, Boucheron pour Hommes, and Jaipur pour Hommes; and above all, they decided to return to the original bottle, the ring, since when they got it back, it no longer had the shape of a ring and no longer told a story; they did not really see what that added; on the other hand, they judged that it lost a great deal.

The exceptional aura of Boucheron jewelry is naturally the source of inspiration and the origin of the perfumery line's success. Straying from these codes was risky, and fortunately the brand has since found its way back to its essential values and its rich history and fabulous past. Building on this return to its roots, Boucheron released two new perfumes, Boucheron Place Vendôme in 2013 and the magnificent Quatre in 2005, which once again reached a wide audience of admirers of the perfumed work of art created by this brilliant house...
