Black Orchid Reserve

Tom Ford extends Black Orchid into a parfum extrait under the name Reserve. The house assigns a stage to only three accords: black orchid opens, patchouli occupies the heart, a ghost orchid accord closes. It classifies the fragrance as chypre floral and gives it as a deeper, darker reading of its 2006 classic.

The house breakdown names only three accords and gives them a stage: the black orchid accord at the top, patchouli at the heart, the ghost orchid accord at the base. The house classifies the whole as chypre floral.

What the house declares

Ylang ylang receives an increased dosage, its floral facet flecked with sparks of timut pepper. A roasted tonka bean spreads a smoky warmth in the background. A black truffle accord carries an earthy intensity, while the woody richness of patchouli intertwines with ambery shades.

What the label declares

The European list names no raw material: it comes down to alcohol, fragrance, water and a series of declarable allergens, coumarin, hydroxycitronellal, eugenol, cinnamyl alcohol, farnesol, citronellol, geraniol, limonene, linalool, isoeugenol, citral, cinnamal, anise alcohol. Two preservatives and the ILN 53573 code close the list.

What stays outside the declared accord

The coumarin on the label answers the tonka bean of the copy, the eugenol and cinnamal answer its spicy facets, but none of these materials receives a stage. The American list from the house names patchouli oil and vanillin in addition, which the European list leaves out. Timut pepper does not enter the reference set and stays in prose.
