REPLICA By the Fireplace, signed by Maison Margiela in 2015, opens on orange blossom, pink pepper, and clove, all three spicy. The woody, smoky heart precedes a gourmand base bringing together vanilla, Peru balsam, and cashmeran.
Orange blossom, waxy and powdery, pink pepper and clove, both spicy, occupy the top. Pink pepper and clove meet on spice; orange blossom remains waxy there.
Guaiac wood, smoky and balsamic, juniper berries, resinous and peppery, and chestnut, warm and floury, share the heart. The three share no descriptor: guaiac holds the leather, juniper the resin, chestnut a milky facet.
Vanilla, sweet and spicy, Peru balsam, caramelized and balsamic, and cashmeran, woody and spicy, make up the base. Vanilla and cashmeran share spice, while Peru balsam meets cashmeran on balsamic.
