Monsieur Balmain

Monsieur Balmain is a fragrance that came into being in 1964 and was conceived in the image of the house's founder. It is a resolutely elegant juice. Monsieur Balmain is, in a way, a gentleman in the form of a fragrance.

The timelessness of Monsieur Balmain The birth of Monsieur Balmain It was 1947 when Pierre Balmain decided to create an eau fraîche strongly inspired by classic Eaux de Cologne. Nevertheless, it was indeed a fragrance and not an eau fraîche. Also, as a true visionary, Pierre Balmain decided to replace the acidity of citrus with the softness of a slightly citrus herb: verbena. The success of this juice was immediate. However, it did not yet have its current name. Indeed, at first, Monsieur Balmain was called Verveine Citronnelle. The name we know today came into being in 1964. In this instance, Monsieur Balmain appeared as an echo to its feminine counterpart named Jolie Madame. It was from that day that it truly made a name for itself. It is now considered a benchmark in the perfumery world. Moreover, it has been imitated many times and its freshness has become emblematic of masculine juices. Indeed, Monsieur Balmain is ideal for all types of occasions. It is at once elegant and casual, natural and lively. It is also fairly discreet, which only heightens its appeal, especially during the summer season. What is more, it was created with unparalleled craftsmanship and displays great refinement.

The striking freshness of Monsieur Balmain

Like a good number of the house of Balmain's juices, this one was created by the talented perfumer Germaine Cellier. It is a very fresh fragrance that displays its liveliness from the very first top notes. These are notably brimming with verbena, citronella, bitter orange, lemon, bergamot, orange and petitgrain. Its dynamism is further heightened by the presence of frosted mint. Monsieur Balmain then develops into a very elegant heart, combining rose with aromatics such as thyme, rosemary or sage. Spices then liven up the whole, and the recipe for Monsieur Balmain notably highlights pepper, ginger and nutmeg. These ingredients help give the whole a more pronounced character as well as making it warmer. Finally, Monsieur Balmain ends on a woodier, muskier scent based on sandalwood, vetiver and oakmoss. The whole is brilliantly balanced. Monsieur Balmain is a fragrance that is neither too muted nor too heady. It is indeed this perfect dosage that probably accounts for its remarkable longevity.
