Today, perfumers do not hesitate to roam the globe in search of the finest raw materials. They then work them into their fragrances so as to transport us with a single breath. This is precisely what Parfumerie Générale has done in creating its brand new perfume named Limanakia.

Parfumerie Générale's journey

Limanakia was created by the nose Pierre Guillaume. To create it, this perfumer hoisted the mainsail and set course for the Aegean Sea. It was in Greece, and more specifically near Athens, that he found the inspiration for this fragrance. Limanakia plunges us into the heart of the Aegean Sea, on the rocky, rugged beaches of the island of Limanakia. Today, in terms of tourism, these are rather known as nudist or gay meeting spots. Beyond that aspect, however, they are also celebrated for their absolutely splendid marine and mineral landscapes. Limanakia also offers visitors magnificent little coves with turquoise water. The rock there plunges directly into the sea, which offers immense diversity. Snorkeling, meaning diving with fins and a snorkel, is thus very often practiced there. It is precisely this picturesque setting that Pierre Guillaume wanted to offer us. Limanakia is a fragrance that evokes the animalic quality of skin mixed with the scent of cistus and the mineral smell of sea winds caressing sun-scorched rocks.

The contrasted scent of Limanakia

The island of Limanakia presents a landscape that is both harmonious and diverse. Depicting this picture in olfactory terms thus amounts to combining opposites. Limanakia opens with the scent of mugwort. This is obtained through steam distillation of several varieties of artemisia, a plant typical of the Mediterranean basin that grows wild. It is known for its persistent, aromatic smell. It is then followed in the heart by a more floral elegance. Limanakia combines jasmine, lily of the valley and tiare flower. The result is rich, light and exotic all at once. Black pepper, however, comes to counterbalance this apparent sweetness and give it more temperament. What is more, it paves the way for a very spicy sillage, notably dominated by the presence of cumin and cinnamon. Immortelle then lends the whole a more syrupy temperament, while labdanum and patchouli give it more character and structure. Overall, this is a rich and sensual perfume. Like the beaches of Limanakia, it seems conducive to embraces.
