L'Innommable
The perfume L’Innommable by perfumer Serge Lutens. While some perfumers opt for an optimistic, magical and romantic mood, others have a gift for playing in a much darker and more mysterious register. Such is the case with the talented Serge Lutens.

Where to buy
A highly creative yet equally atypical figure, he resembles no other perfumer and is characterized by fragrances that are always very rich and subtle, crafted from noble materials. Serge Lutens's creations are always highly anticipated, and June 2018 has plenty in store to delight you… Serge Lutens presents a brand new fragrance named L'Innommable.
Serge Lutens, an extraordinary creator steeped in nostalgia
Serge Lutens was born in the north of France, in the midst of the war. Separated from his mother at a very young age, he retains a profound fragility from this experience. This, however, allowed him to reveal his dreamy nature early on. While nothing predestined him for the world of perfumery, Serge Lutens developed an extraordinary sense of smell during his childhood spent in Morocco. Surrounded by spices, he understood very early that this was his destined path. Serge Lutens now speaks of perfume like no one else. Perfume is at the center of who we are. It is through it that we express ourselves. It is our dot on the i, a way of envisioning and experiencing ourselves. It is also a kind of weapon where seduction would be a consequence rather than an intention. Perfume speaks in the first person. L'Innommable draws in part on his own history and delivers an oriental breath intended for both men and women.
The spicy breath of L'Innommable
As always, Serge Lutens has remained very discreet and ambiguous about the composition of his fragrance. Thus, he chose to reveal only two main ingredients of his recipe. The first is benzoin. This is a resin from a shrub, releasing a warm, fruity, woody and vanilla-like scent. Benzoin gives L'Innommable a gourmand character, revealing in certain respects a scent close to that of caramel or cocoa butter. The whole also gains an edge of impertinence from cumin, the second main ingredient of L'Innommable. Typical of the Mediterranean basin, this spice takes us to the heart of Serge Lutens's childhood. Here, cumin comes across as anise-like, animalic and aromatic.
L'Innommable by Serge Lutens comes in a brand new bottle
Finally, one last change, and not the least of them: L'Innommable comes in a brand new bottle. While Serge Lutens had accustomed us to his iconic transparent glass rectangle, he chose to transform his bottle. L'Innommable is presented in a kind of skyscraper of black, opaque glass. Its bottle rises toward the sky with grace and elegance. As a small piece of trivia, this new design draws directly on the film Metropolis. The result is a dark, streamlined bottle, crafted with the skill that only Serge Lutens possesses.
