Daniela Andrier was born in Heidelberg, Germany, and moved to France at the age of 15. Although Daniela Andrier was originally headed toward literary studies, she had a genuine revelation and joined the renowned perfumery school, ISIPCA. She is a truly talented perfumer, but also a discreet and instinctive woman. When asked what a good fragrance means to her, she states that it is one that has a soul and the capacity to carry us back to lost realms, full of echoes of our own memory. It resonates rather than merely telling its own story. A good fragrance, she says, is emotion. Iris and amber, the stars of L'Homme Prada
In order to portray the ideal man, Daniela Andrier chose to work with iris and amber and to build her composition around these magnificent ingredients. Iris is, along with oud, without doubt the most expensive raw material in perfumery. Originally from the Far East, iris is now produced in Italy and Morocco. The root of the iris is a rhizome, and it is this part that is used in perfumery. Its extraction is long and complicated, which explains its price. Catherine de Medici used iris for its powdery qualities, and this tonality is highly prized by noses today. Amber is the favorite material of Miuccia Prada, currently at the head of the house of Prada. Natural amber is the resin of a tree, initially liquid, which solidifies on contact with air. However, one must distinguish amber, the fossilized resin, from ambergris, a product of the sperm whale. Amber offers woody, sensual and delicate tonalities. The composition opens with the luminosity of neroli. This is heightened by black pepper, lending the whole strength and character. The heart of L'Homme Prada combines amber and iris, to which violet and geranium are then added. The base is sensual and daring thanks to the presence of patchouli and vetiver. The bottle, at once understated and ultra luxurious, reflects a resolutely modern man.
