English Pear & Sweet Pea Cologne

English Pear & Sweet Pea is the eau de Cologne that Jo Malone London introduced in September 2023, composed by Anne Flipo. The house wraps a Williams pear, drawn from a natural extract of the fruit, in pastel sweet pea, on a base of powdery white musk: a light floral fragrance that it conceives as the youthful counterpart of English Pear & Freesia.

Josephine Fairley of Beauty Bible finds it light and airy, with a champagne-like freshness, sweet pea that arrives gently, a discreet musk and a hint of wood: to her, an exceptional fragrance.

What critics say

A light, airy fragrance

Josephine Fairley, who writes Beauty Bible with Sarah Stacey, discovered it at the launch in September 2023. She sees in it an unexpected new love, she who usually prefers dark, smoky fragrances. She finds it very feminine, with enough intrigue to hold her attention, and reports that two other fragrance writers adore it too.

At the opening, she finds it light and airy, almost as fresh as champagne, with hints of clean laundry drying in the wind. The sweet peas are not noticeable at first: they arrive gently. She describes the pear as a real fruit, the equivalent of a whole pear supposedly pressed into each bottle.

Later, a musk appears, with a little wood. She judges the whole exceptional, to be re-sprayed often like any cologne, and notes the faceted bottle, which sparkles almost like the fragrance it holds.
