Released in 2011 within the Private Blend collection, echoing Tom Ford’s lipsticks, Jasmin Rouge is signed by Rodrigo Flores-Roux. The house presents it as a spiced floral: a sambac jasmine haloed with clary sage and black and white peppers, over a base of labdanum and amber, in a deep red bottle.

Tom Ford now reduces Jasmin Rouge to six key notes: black and white peppercorns, clary sage, sambac jasmine sepals absolute, ylang-ylang, labdanum resin and amber. The much longer 2011 list specifies where each material sits.

At the top, bergamot and mandarin sit alongside cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and black and white pepper. The heart brings together sambac jasmine, broom, neroli, ylang-ylang and clary sage, while a Mexican vanilla, labdanum, leather, woods and amber make up the base.

In 2015, Ayala Moriel perceived fruity accents of plum, apricot and peach, and a touch of tuberose, gardenia and orange blossom that she attributes to methyl anthranilate. Alongside the sambac, she also smells a more animalic jasmine grandiflorum.

Victoria, on Bois de Jasmin, noted in 2011 a marked presence of orange blossom and ylang-ylang alongside the jasmine, and a resinous pepper suggesting both incense and wood. None of these perceived materials appears among the notes declared by Tom Ford; they remain in prose.
