The house Hanae Mori carefully chose the ingredients for the composition of Him. The woody notes are represented here by white cedar, teak wood and tonka bean. The spicy notes are represented by cinnamon and pepper. Citrus and sweet tones such as fig tree blend in harmoniously with these. Spicy notes deliver intense and subtle aromas and are highly prized in perfumery. There are two kinds of spices, warm ones (cinnamon, nutmeg, chili pepper) and cold ones (coriander, ginger). Him takes flight on the freshness of mandarin, paired with violet flower then heightened by grey pepper. Originating from India and China, grey pepper has been used since the dawn of time. The Romans used to mix grey pepper and juniper to give strength to dishes. In the 18th century, Pierre Poivre, whose name is only a coincidence, then governor of Fort-de-France, decided to plant pepper trees on the island of Réunion. Today, pepper is grown in Madagascar, Brazil and also Asia. In perfumery, pepper essence is obtained by steam-distilling the ripe fruit. Pepper releases spicy, dry and woody tones.
Then, the heart of Him evolves toward a warm and soft blend, combining tonka bean, cinnamon and fig tree wood. The tonka bean has an almond-like shape. It is the fruit of the Brazilian teak, also called Dipteryx odorata. After being harvested, the bean is dried, then soaked in alcohol for 24 hours, and dried again. Reduced to powder, the beans are extracted using solvents to obtain absolute oil. In perfumery, the tonka bean is highly prized by noses. It releases woody, sensual, warm, smoky and balsamic scents.
