Black Saffron

Byredo presents Black Saffron as an Eau de Parfum and claims for it a dual inspiration: India and saffron. Black Saffron comes in two sizes, a 50 ml bottle and a 100 ml bottle.

Top

Grapefruit opens the composition on a fresh, fruity citrus note. Saffron brings a spice with leathery and tarry tones, the dried stigmas of a crocus flower whose odor often evokes tanned skin. Juniper berries give a green, peppery opening, with a resinous facet.

Heart

Violet brings a powdery, green and waxy note, which its leaf readily renders vegetal. The rose turns warm, with nuances of honey and wax. Leather, finally, carries accents of smoke, tar and tobacco, a reminder of hides treated with birch.

Base

Vetiver, the root of a tropical grass, gives the base a woody, smoky and earthy character. Raspberry adds sugar, acidity and sweetness, a gourmand facet rare at this tier. Woods, soft and creamy, extend the whole with a rounded material.

A spicy oriental

The oriental family traditionally gathers warm accords where spices, resins, leathers and dark woods dominate. Here, saffron carries its spice, leather its smoky density, woods and vetiver its depth, while honeyed rose and sweet raspberry bring the characteristic sweetness of this register.

What the label declares

The INCI list declares water, under the name aqua, and farnesol. The latter is a terpenic alcohol present in many floral essences, notably rose, and in linden blossom; its light, floral and slightly green odor harmonizes with the rose and violet in the accord.
