Bvlgari Man in Black is the eau de parfum Bulgari launched in 2014, for its 130th anniversary, as the third chapter of the Bvlgari Man line. Alberto Morillas slips tuberose into a masculine oriental: rum and spices at the top, tuberose, iris and a leather accord, a base of benzoin, tonka bean and guaiac wood, in a black bottle with copper lettering.
Kevin, on Now Smell This, found in 2014 a sweet spicy woody scent, pleasant but not very inventive, where tonka bean covers the promised flowers; he recommends it to fans of no-nonsense fragrances.
What critics say
Now Smell This, December 2014
On December 10, 2014, Kevin was looking forward to Man in Black for its tuberose. The opening is sweet, loaded with cardamom and a liqueur note, over a base of powdery leather, benzoin, tonka bean and guaiac.
He finds the whole pleasant but uninspired: the tuberose and iris vanish under the tonka, and he catches only a fleeting, discreet white flower. He sees it as a good fragrance for men who like no-nonsense spicy woody scents, with nothing odd about it.
