1902 Figuier & Sichuan

The story has been unfolding for more than 100 years. Today, Berdoues has decided to pay tribute to its beginnings, through the creation of a collection named 1902. Initiated a few years ago already, this assemblage of fragrances is now joined by a newcomer named Figuier & Sichuan, described by the house as a summer nap.

The freshly sun-kissed scent of Figuier & Sichuan

Figuier & Sichuan is a timeless and highly contrasted fragrance. On one hand, it clearly relies on freshness, evoking the Eaux de Cologne of old. Indeed, this type of fragrance was once widely used by the French. Unconsciously, Eaux de Cologne have thus remained in our collective memory, and lead us to appreciate refreshing fragrances. Yet at the time, Eaux de Cologne sorely lacked character and tenacity. Today, Berdoues has solved the problem by adding an extra gourmand character. Fig is present and delights us here with its sweet flavor. In a more green spirit, its leaves are also used. The sap of the fig tree seems delicately warmed by the sun, recalling the scent of Mediterranean fields on a beautiful summer day. Then, for more femininity, Figuier & Sichuan also contains flowers such as rose and iris. Sichuan pepper also comes to tickle the whole composition, giving it more spirit and impertinence. At its base, Figuier & Sichuan is illuminated by white musks.

Berdoues opts for a timeless fragrance

Through this fragrance, the house of Berdoues pays tribute to its origins. Indeed, its history began with the creation of an Eau de Cologne. In 1902, Guillaume Berdoues, then a hairdresser and barber, decided to craft his own perfume to enhance his clients' grooming routine. The amber breath of his composition immediately met with great success. This is how Berdoues' business was launched. By drawing inspiration from the Eaux de Cologne of the past, and by displaying the date 1902 on its label, Berdoues here pays a nod to its prestigious past.
The bottle of Figuier & Sichuan, meanwhile, is shared across the entire 1902 collection. It forms a thick glass cylinder. Its beveled edges combine with a more contemporary chrome cap. To evoke the fig, this transparent bottle lets us glimpse a purple juice. A deeper plum ribbon decorates the center of this bottle. Finally, the whole is presented in a cardboard box, decorated with multiple drawings depicting figs and leaves, in shades of purple, white and gray. The entire visual is thoroughly timeless. No one could truly give it an age, any more than the fragrance contained within.
