Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton was born on August 4, 1821 in a small town in the Jura. At 14, he decided to try his luck in Paris, and walked the 400 km separating him from the capital. It was in 1854 that he opened his first shop near Place Vendôme, in Paris. He was then a trunk maker and invented “the flat trunk”, more practical for traveling. This invention would revolutionize the world of luggage and would be the starting point of an exceptional success.

Louis Vuitton, a history of trunks
In 1859, Louis Vuitton transferred his workshop to Asnières-sur-Seine in order to take advantage of the river canal. From the outset, Louis Vuitton offered products of great quality. With his son, Georges, and in order to prevent counterfeiting, Louis filed a printed pattern made of a brown and beige checkerboard, inscribed with “L.Vuitton, marque déposée”. Father and son devised revolutionary trunks, such as the “Wardrobe”, a trunk that opens vertically to store clothing, or the “speedy 25”, a mini bag created for Audrey Hepburn. In 1885, Georges Vuitton opened his first London shop, followed shortly after by a New York shop. In 1977, the company became a multinational. Then, in 1987, it merged with Moët Hennessy to create LVMH, the world leader in luxury. Leather goods, ready-to-wear, perfumes: the Louis Vuitton brand has managed to diversify its creations and has never ceased to dominate the world of luxury.
Louis Vuitton takes up perfume
In keeping with luxury, beauty and fashion, Louis Vuitton devised a line of perfumes, released in September 2016. 7 luxurious fragrances to accompany women on their travels. It was master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud who created these perfumes. “Rose des Vents” evokes the lightness and beauty of roses. “Turbulences” is a magical creation built around tuberose. “Dans la Peau” invites a very sensual pause. “Apogée” breathes an ode to nature and renewal through lily of the valley. “Contre Moi” is the symbol of a delicate and fresh fragrance. “Mille Feux” pairs leather and raspberry, thus offering an olfactory apotheosis. Finally, “Magie Noire” underscores the darkness of a very precious wood, agarwood from Laos. The bottles are meant to be minimalist, with clear glass, black typography, and a very discreet engraving of the Louis Vuitton house.
Having left alone for Paris to forge his destiny, Louis Vuitton built an empire. The brand's luggage and leather goods were all devised by Louis Vuitton, his son and their descendants. Today, Louis Vuitton reflects the symbol of true French luxury. Even though Louis's small business became a multinational, all of these products have managed to keep the soul of Louis Vuitton.
