The meeting of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana
Domenico Dolce is an Italian born in 1958, near Palermo in Sicily. Stefano Gabbana, for his part, was born in 1962 in Milan. Partners in life as in business, these two creative geniuses met while working as assistants in a fashion design workshop in Milan, Italy. It was in 1985 that they decided to work together and form a house bearing both their names. They first took part in a fashion show organized as part of a “New Talents” event. Winning over the public's enthusiasm, they went on to develop their own women's ready-to-wear fashion show, which took place the following year. Very quickly, the Dolce & Gabbana house managed to win over the public, even becoming adored by the world's biggest stars, such as Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Monica Bellucci, Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams. This is how they came to open numerous stores around the world: in Italy, Japan, the United States and Hong Kong. Generally speaking, the two designers like to say that the Dolce & Gabbana style draws on different influences: Armani for discipline, Alaïa for madness, Chanel for its couture concept, and Jean-Paul Gaultier for creativity.
Dolce & Gabbana perfumes
Dolce & Gabbana is a house that is most often said to succeed in making women look sexy. Moreover, each of the house's releases comes with powerful advertising campaigns. This holds true in perfumery as well. The very first juice created by Dolce & Gabbana was born in 1992. It was Dolce & Gabbana pour femme, a classic and powerful fragrance playing on a contrast between sweet and bitter. Two years later, it was released in a men's version. Then came a string of successes: Light Blue in 2001, The One in 2006 followed by numerous flankers, a fragrance collection based on the cards of the Marseille tarot deck in 2009, the Velvet Collection in 2011, and the Dolce trilogy in 2016. Naturally, the Dolce & Gabbana olfactory range is closely tied to the house's style. The whole is wildly sensual and perfectly sophisticated.
Although Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana announced their breakup as a couple in 2004, their creative partnership remains as strong as ever. Thus, Dolce & Gabbana seems to have taken on a life of its own, forever showcasing the image of Italian elegance to the world.
