Vetyver

Vetyver, the made-to-measure fragrance The Givenchy fashion house was founded by count Hubert de Givenchy in 1952. Givenchy's style is therefore naturally that of Hubert, who harmoniously blends relaxed chic with the classic, or even with aristocratic femininity.

Where to buy

It was in 1958 that the house launched into perfumery thanks to the meeting between Hubert and Audrey Hepburn, to whom he dedicated his first fragrance, L'Interdit. The latter owes its name to the fact that Audrey Hepburn did not want “her” perfume to be sold commercially. In 2007, the brand unveiled Vétyver, a great woody fragrance that is a reinterpretation of the first perfume from 1959.

Hubert de Givenchy

As early as 1959, Hubert de Givenchy wanted a perfume just for himself. At the time, he wore a vetiver by Mary Chess, an American perfumer, which he nonetheless found too strong. The idea then came to him: create his own vetiver. Built around fine raw materials, Vétyver is the olfactory representation of masculine seduction. Renowned as a highly virile ingredient, vetiver reveals all its facets here. Chic and distinguished, Vétyver matches Hubert's personality perfectly. It should be noted that this perfume was not marketed right away, since it became Hubert's personal perfume. He then decided to introduce it, but only in the most luxurious boutiques in Paris, New York and London. In 2007, the house had us rediscover Vétyver, which on this occasion joined Givenchy's Les Parfums Mythiques collection.

Vetiver as the sole reference point

As its name indicates, Vétyver is built primarily around vetiver from Réunion. Its essences inevitably reflect those of tropical forests, warm and humid. However, it should be noted that the composition contains three different varieties of vetiver. Woody accords blend with bergamot in the top notes, lending the composition great freshness. The heart is spicy thanks to the presence of coriander. The base carries coriander, and vetiver anchors the base, as if to reaffirm its virile presence. Givenchy here presents a new bottle, rectangular and transparent. A rectangular label in soft pink and a translucent cap add a final touch of elegance and luxury. Vétyver is now considered a must within the vetiver family, as it is a highly refined perfume built around a single raw material.

Here, Givenchy presents the personal perfume created solely for Hubert de Givenchy. Vétyver is the perfect olfactory illustration of the chic, modern and virile man. Unveiled in 1959, Vétyver was reinterpreted in 2007 and entered the very private Parfums Mythiques collection.
