Vétiver

An inspiration was born. This is how one of the most emblematic juices in Guerlain's masculine perfumery came to be: Vétiver. A true tribute to this raw material typical of men's perfumes, this juice was created in 1959 and has managed to make its way through the ages, reaching us intact nearly 60 years after its creation.

Jean-Paul Guerlain's first perfume

It was at only 22 years old that Jean-Paul Guerlain decided to create his own perfumes. It must be said that he had been immersed in the world of perfumery since his earliest childhood. In fact, although Vétiver emerged from an encounter at the heart of nature as described earlier, it was also a fragrance whose base already existed within the Guerlain workshops. Moreover, Vétiver is a modernized version of a men's fragrance already created at Guerlain, which was popular in Mexico. Jean-Paul Guerlain decided to make it his own and modernize it. He turned it into a juice more masculine than ever and particularly vivid. It is probably this dynamism that is the source of all the covetousness it inspires. What is more, Vétiver is a highly interesting juice due to its contrasts. It combines very vivid and fleeting notes with a more woody and spicy base. Thus, Vétiver is conceived in the image of a dynamic, sporty man who nonetheless equally enjoys displaying his virility and elegance. Vétiver is a juice that cannot be assigned an age or a place. It suits all types of personalities, whether urban and worldly men or true nature lovers.

The contrasts of Vétiver

Vétiver opens with a biting, sparkling freshness. This perfume immediately combines several citrus notes such as bergamot, lemon, orange and grapefruit. Thus, its vivid and fleeting freshness is both tangy and sparkling. Then its heart grows stronger in masculinity. It combines spices such as pepper, chili pepper and nutmeg. It likewise releases wisps of tobacco before evolving toward a more woody signature. Naturally, vetiver from Haiti is present at its base. It is enriched with the smoothness of sandalwood and the depth of patchouli. Tonka bean nonetheless comes to round out the whole, leaving behind a particularly tender scent. Vétiver is then housed in the square, massive bottle typical of the house of Guerlain. However, it should be noted that this vessel made its very first appearance on the occasion of this launch.
