Vanilla Woods

Vanilla Woods is an eau de parfum from The 7 Virtues, released in 2018 and composed by Angela Stavrevska. The Canadian house ranks it among the warm gourmands: a pear at the top, a rose at the heart, and at the base a fair-trade vanilla from Madagascar, caramel and amber. It claims twenty-two percent fragrance oils.

The 7 Virtues breaks Vanilla Woods down into three stages: pear at the top, rose at the heart, vanilla, amber and caramel at the base. The house places it in the family of warm and spicy perfumes, and among the warm and sweet gourmands.

The vanilla is organic and fair trade. Barb Stegemann, quoted by Refinery29, describes a rich, creamy and warm vanilla accord that should never overpower, and an ambery, woody base that, in her view, harks back to the fire of our origins.

What the label declares

The house’s page names, after the alcohol, fragrance and water, four components: tetramethyl acetyloctahydronaphthalenes, a synthetic woody material, vanillin, hexadecanolactone, a musk, and rose ketones.

Sephora’s European pages show only the first three components, and neither list names an allergen that must be declared.

What the list adds

Vanillin confirms the house’s vanilla, and the rose ketones echo the rose announced at the heart. The woody material and the musk are not among the announced notes, even though the perfume’s name promises wood.
