Myrrh & Tonka

Myrrh & Tonka is the Cologne Intense fragrance Mathilde Bijaoui composed for Jo Malone London, around an Omumbiri myrrh harvested in Namibia. A touch of lavender opens onto the myrrh, warm and slightly smoky, before a base of tonka bean, almond and vanilla; a unisex fragrance, presented in January 2017.

For Thomas Dunckley, on his blog The Candy Perfume Boy, it is a milky, gauzy lavender smoke, a translucent veil worth seeking out.

What critics say

The Candy Perfume Boy, January 2017

Thomas Dunckley does not rank it among his favourites in the Cologne Intense collection, but finds it worth trying. The myrrh barely dominates, more earthy than resinous, over a milky tonka that extends the opening seamlessly.

Above all he praises a transparency rare in an oriental, a translucent and ethereal veil of silk, and sums up the fragrance as a milky, gauzy lavender smoke.
