The brand is behind famous creations such as the Zip necklace, the ballerina and fairy jewels, or the ruby ball ring. In 1987, the brand unveiled Gem, its second fragrance.

The name of this second fragrance from the brand was not chosen at random, even if it may seem surprising or trivial. In fact, Gem refers to a gemstone, recalling the original vocation of the Van Cleef & Arpels house. A gem is a fine precious stone. To earn the name gem, a stone must be highly attractive, mainly through its color. Gem thus demonstrates how precious its fragrance is. By linking its perfume to a precious stone, the brand once again shows its attachment to jewelry and weaves a bond that seems indelible. Gem was created for women who love beautiful things. The sensual notes of Gem

Gem was created with great boldness and harmony. It is defined as a floral chypre. Gem takes on a sparkling, fresh flight thanks to peach and bergamot. These are joined by the fruity notes of plum as well as the spicy touch of coriander. The heart of Gem develops into an elegant, ultra-feminine bouquet composed of iris, tuberose and ylang-ylang, enhanced by the spicy notes of cardamom and clove. Finally, the base of Gem is more sensual, with the presence of vanilla, amber, oakmoss and patchouli. As for the bottle, it was recently redesigned. It now displays a very modern blue-gray color. Its case resembles a column rising toward the sky. It is adorned with stars and its neck is embellished with a gold-tone ring.
