Coriandre

Only a year later, Coriandre was born from the talented nose of Jacqueline Couturier. This great gust of chypre and floral flowers sought to pay vibrant tribute to the perfume worn by the creator's mother, Shocking by Schiaparelli. Coriandre would remain for decades the reference in chypre-floral perfumes.

Jacqueline Couturier and the first feminine chypre-floral perfume: Coriandre

Coriandre is the fruit of the love story between Jean Couturier, the famous head of the Yves Saint-Laurent house, and the woman who would become his wife, Jacqueline Couturier, a talented nose already behind numerous perfume compositions.

When Coriandre was released in 1973, the Couturier perfume house was still a very young institution seeking recognition. While Jacqueline Couturier was already known for her talents as a perfume creator, it was impossible to know her works, as she preferred to remain anonymous. Coriandre is therefore the first perfume she signed. Perhaps because she created it to pay tribute to her late mother, who wore the fabulous Shocking by Schiaparelli. Or perhaps because Coriandre is the very first perfume the house of Jean Couturier offered.

In any case, Coriandre has gone down in everyone's memory for this refined blend of very warm chypre notes elegantly paired with floral notes of jasmine, rose and ylang-ylang. Today, the very chic Coriandre is considered the undisputed master of feminine chypre-floral perfumes.

Coriandre does not seek to impress its audience in order to please. Its bottle, like its packaging, is tinted with a marbled green that surely refers to the scents of oakmoss or vetiver forming its backbone. No ostentatious luxury, then, for this lovely Coriandre.

The lovely aromatic facets of coriander, of course, but also of angelica, offer a lively and sparkling opening. Enhanced with a touch of orange blossom, the top notes are powerful and aldehydic. At the heart, a precious field of jasmine and rose unfolds, powdered with iris and lily. However, sharp, green and fruity geranium punctuates this floral blend with its sparkling energy. Then the floral and aromatic trap closes into one of the most addictive woody blends of oakmoss, vetiver, patchouli and sandalwood, accompanied even by a touch of animalic civet.
