Dahlia Divin, the essence of Givenchy haute couture runway shows, is considered a mark of excellence and elegance in the world of haute couture, perfumery and cosmetics. Hubert de Givenchy was only 24 when he first drew attention.
The house of Givenchy has conveyed joy of living and femininity through its perfume bottles since the 1950s. Today, all of its feminine fragrances are imbued with a spirit that is at once highly couture and highly joyful. By asking the celebrated Dior perfumer François Demachy to compose a fragrance inspired by the dahlia, Givenchy made an exceptional choice, and Dahlia Noir was born in 2011. Afterward, this magnificent Dahlia would transform into lovely fragrances, including Dahlia Divin, a sun-kissed elixir of luminous femininity.
The Dahlia Divin fragrance, or François Demachy's ode to the sun-kissed woman for Givenchy
Hubert de Givenchy, a passionate lover of perfume, always knew how to surround himself with the greatest talents in perfumery to give his house precious fragrances that were as sophisticated as they were joyful and original. From Le De and L'Interdit, designed for Audrey Hepburn, the couturier's close friend, every feminine Givenchy fragrance has brought its sillage of notes that are as elegant as they are divinely modern.
For once, for the new Givenchy fragrance set to launch in 2011, François Demachy left his precious perfume organs at Dior to take on the extraordinary request of Hubert Givenchy's successor, Riccardo Tisci. The new head of Givenchy asked him to compose a fragrance for an aristocratic, elegant woman, with a certain severity, but who at the same time shows sensuality and romance — L'Express on Dahlia Noir. Dahlia Noir was born.
Afterward, Dahlia Noir became an eau, then in 2014 it was born a third time in the precious bottle of Dahlia Divin. A Dahlia Divin that would retain the same mysterious notes as its predecessor while playing with citrus, floral and fruity lights to propel toward the blazing rays of absolute femininity.
Between fruit and flowers, the woman of Givenchy's Dahlia Divin takes on multiple faces
For Dahlia Divin, it is unclear whether its magnificent face of the campaign, Alicia Keys, was chosen for her personality, or whether François Demachy was deeply inspired by the image of such a luminous woman.
I created a delicate and delicious opening: a balance of colorful, juicy notes, slightly indulgent, says the creator of the fragrance, François Demachy. Then I gave the fragrance more sun-kissed inflections, in order to create a sillage befitting this radiant and generous muse — François Demachy on Dahlia Divin and Alicia Keys, its face of the campaign.
Thus Dahlia Divin opens with lovely sparkling citrus notes of lemon, mandarin, bergamot, and orange, dotted with a touch of pink pepper. Then the heart of this Dahlia Divin bursts into a magnificent spray of rose, jasmine, orange blossom and lily of the valley. This floral opulence is sweetened by lovely gourmand touches thanks to apple, blackcurrant and a smooth, soft peach. Finally, in this Dahlia Divin we find the sensual, intense depths of Dahlia Noir, built around woody notes, vanilla and coumarin.
