Cuir Ottoman was launched in the fall of 2006, alongside Iskander, by Parfum d’Empire, the house of Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, who composes it himself. The house presents it as an iris and leather oriental: a leather of burnt styrax and birch, powdered with iris, warmed with cistus and steeped in Tolu balsam, benzoin and incense, around a heart of Egyptian jasmine.
Iris, leather and balsams
Marc-Antoine Corticchiato rubs the leather with iris, warms it with cistus and burnt styrax and steeps it in an oriental base of Tolu balsam, benzoin and incense tears. Egyptian jasmine holds the heart; vanilla and tonka bean add their softness.
The house does not divide the rest into tiers. Kafkaesque smells new leather brushed with iris powder at the opening, the jasmine in the background, and finds tonka bean and vanilla dominating the base: iris and leather are placed in the top notes, cistus and styrax in the heart, with the jasmine.
Birch, which the house pairs with styrax to build its leather, does not appear among the declared notes. The launch list mentioned neither cistus, nor vanilla, nor tonka bean, which the house describes today.
What the label declares
The ingredient list published by the house declares, after alcohol, fragrance and water, fifteen regulated allergens, among them coumarin, a natural constituent of tonka bean, eugenol, geraniol, citral and hydroxycitronellal.
