Alexandria II

Alexandria II is a fragrance from Xerjoff’s Oud Stars collection, launched in 2012 and composed by Chris Maurice. The house draws its inspiration from ancient Arabian perfumery and from Alexandria, a crossroads of cultures: apple mingles with lavender and rosewood, over a heart of cedar, lily of the valley and Bulgarian rose, and a base of amber, sandalwood and Laotian oud.

Nicoleta Tomsa sees Alexandria II as a baroque tale in perpetual motion: a frank aromatic opening of lavender and cinnamon, passages of undergrowth and withered flowers, a finale of vanilla custards and ripe fruit. The fragrance leaves her intrigued, eager to return to it as soon as possible.

What critics say

ÇaFleurBon: a baroque tale

On November 6, 2020, Nicoleta Tomsa likens Alexandria II to Matteo Garrone’s Tale of Tales, drawn from Basile’s stories: an elusive fragrance that keeps changing its face and leaves an impression of the almost familiar.

She describes a fresh, sharp aromatic opening where lavender meets a cup of cinnamon tea, a passage of damp undergrowth and withered flowers, and a ball scene laden with vanilla custards and overripe fruit.

She sees it as a lavish, baroque tale, with rapid movements between its layers and a truly Fellini-esque excess, and concludes that she wants more of it in her life, as soon as possible. The sample had been provided to her, she notes.
