Feminine Eau de Parfum by Tom Ford, Oud Wood combines pepper, cardamom and rosewood in the opening with a heart of sandalwood, vetiver and oud, which vanilla, tonka bean and amber envelop in the base.
An accord without tiers
Tom Ford presents Oud Wood through a set of key notes, without dividing them into top, heart and base. The house cites rosewood, cardamom, pink pepper, patchouli, amber, oud and tonka bean as the components of this accord.
The house's account
Tom Ford evokes a smoky blend of precious oud notes, sandalwood and vetiver, carried by exotic rosewood and cardamom in the opening. Tonka bean and amber, according to the house, bring warmth and sensuality to the whole.
What the label declares
The label lists coumarin, linalool, hydroxycitronellal, farnesol, limonene and cinnamic alcohol: the coumarin matches the tonka bean announced, while farnesol and cinnamic alcohol suggest floral and balsamic facets that the house does not name. Tocopherol and dilauryl thiodipropionate are antioxidants.
A diverging reading
Kafkaesque, in her review, describes an opening dominated by rose and a sweet, hazelnut-like cardamom. She notes Sichuan pepper, earthy vetiver and rich vanilla from the start, before the appearance of oud with slightly medicinal tonalities. She also notes an unexpected mocha accord at the center of the composition, absent from the official account.
A Parfum version in 2024
Tom Ford announces in 2024 an Oud Wood Parfum flanker, which reprises the original accord while adding natural cardamom and patchouli, smoking saffron and tonka bean, revealing, according to the house, new facets of the emblematic composition.
