Oud Essentiel is a woody leather fragrance by Guerlain launched in 2017 in the Les Absolus d’Orient collection, now part of the Absolus Allegoria line. Thierry Wasser pays tribute to oud wood: geranium and saffron open the composition, oud, rose and Atlas cedar form its heart, and leather, incense and guaiac wood its base. A unisex eau de parfum, in 125 ml.

Since moving into Absolus Allegoria, Oud Essentiel comes in the Allegoria collection bottle, produced in France and containing 15% recycled glass. The house adds that the spray unscrews and that the lacquer, worked in transparency, makes recycling easier.
Portia, of Perfume Posse, dates these colored glass bottles to 2024 and sees them as a reinterpretation of the metallic Les Absolus d’Orient bottles. In 2017, Guerlain dressed Oud Essentiel in a green-toned bottle, highlighted with gold on the cap, the passementerie ribbon and the label.
The arabesques on this label, Guerlain specified, came from the house’s heritage. The eau de parfum is sold in a single 125 ml size, already announced at launch in 2017.
