Knowing

Knowing, by Estée Lauder, opens on a green, fresh top where honeyed, waxy tuberose sits alongside aldehydes evoking orange and hot iron. The heart combines jasmine, lily of the valley and earthy patchouli, before a woody base blending amber, sandalwood and smoky vetiver.

The green note, made of fresh grass and cut stems, occupies the top alongside tuberose, honeyed and waxy, and aldehydes evoking candle wax and hot iron: vegetal freshness sits close to warm, fatty materials.

Jasmine, warm and sweet, and lily of the valley, green and fresh, share the heart; patchouli joins them with its earthy, damp facet, close to wine cork and ripe apple, on a much darker register.

In the base, woody, animalic amber accompanies velvety, sensual sandalwood; vetiver, smoky and earthy, is the most vegetal of the three, in a base where wood dominates in turns warm and dry forms.
