Dark Amber & Ginger Lily
Dark Amber & Ginger Lily appeared in 2008 in Jo Malone London's Kohdo Wood Collection, two limited editions borrowed from the Japanese incense ceremony. Black cardamom and ginger open, a black orchid holds the middle with water lily and jasmine, Kyara wood incense and dark amber close. The house has since moved it into its Cologne Intense range.

Jo Malone London released Dark Amber & Ginger Lily in the spring of 2008, alongside Lotus Blossom & Water Lily. The two fragrances form the Kohdo Wood Collection, a limited-edition pair that the house ties to Kohdo, the Japanese art of incense appreciation.
Day and night
The collection reads in two parts. Lotus Blossom & Water Lily holds the daytime side, Dark Amber & Ginger Lily the night-time side, denser. March, on Perfume Posse, reports in April 2008 a sales assistant convinced that the second is worn only after dark.
From a limited edition to the permanent range
The 2008 bottles went quickly. The house brought the fragrance back, and it now sits in its Cologne Intense range in nine, fifty and one hundred millilitres, alongside Myrrh & Tonka and Velvet Rose & Oud.
A nose never named
Jo Malone had left the house that bears her name two years before this release. No creation credit accompanies Dark Amber & Ginger Lily, and March was already puzzled by this in 2008: the perfumer field is left empty here.
What the house says about it
The current wording holds in one image: a trail of incense rising during a Japanese ritual, lit by black cardamom and fresh lily, enriched with amber. Dark and distinctive, writes Jo Malone London.
