HM, a masculine fragrance of rare beauty. Hanae Fujji was born in Shimane (a prefecture in southern Japan) in 1926. She married Ken Mori in 1947 and enrolled in a fashion school. She opened her first boutique in central Tokyo in 1951.
Hanae Mori began her haute couture adventure in her first workshop in Tokyo in the 1950s. Quickly noticed for her elegant and poetic style, the Japanese house soon arrived in Europe, never to leave. In 1995, the designer launched her very first perfume, Butterfly, which already placed Hanae Mori among the ranks of a great perfume house. In 1997, her very first masculine perfume, HM pour Homme Eau de Parfum, continued to exude the designer's inimitable signature.
HM pour Homme, or the poetic effluvia of a modern man signed Hanae Mori
The style of Hanae Mori's haute couture collections is remarkable both for its poetic beauty and for its elegance blending Asian and European fabrics. Quite naturally, Hanae Mori's incomparable signature in the world of fashion carried over into perfumery from the release of Butterfly, the designer's first perfume, in 1995.
Butterfly, with its intense gourmand sillage composed by Bernard Ellena, marked the beginning of Hanae Mori's adventures in perfumery. It also marked a rather natural desire on the designer's part not to follow the major commercial and marketing trends of perfumery. Thus the second Hanae Mori bottle, HM pour Homme, would only be offered in perfumeries for insiders, so-called niche perfumery.
This did not prevent the beautiful and so elegant HM pour Homme from earning a place among favorite bottles, quite the contrary! HM pour Homme does not seek to be noticed, it stands out on its own, its aromatic, floral and fruity effluvia distinguishing themselves with sophistication from other, more commercial bottles.
The Hanae Mori perfumes invite one into the classic and elegant world of their masculine fragrances. The poetry of Madame Mori's childhood memories, ingeniously blended with the Art of Perfumery, will win one over and carry one away on a journey… Hanae Mori on HM pour Hommes and HIM.
A citrus jasmine for a beautiful and powerful masculine perfume by Hanae Mori named HM pour Homme
While we know Butterfly's creator, Bernard Ellena, well, both for his mainstream compositions such as Legend pour Femme by Montblanc and for his name well known in the industry (he is the younger brother of Jean-Claude Ellena), the same cannot be said for the eminent creator of HM pour Homme. Indeed, we know a few secrets of the fragrance's making, but we do not know the author of this precious and so original masculine perfume.
HM pour Homme opens on notes of lemon, lavender and curly mint, offering a powerful and virile aromatic start. Then, in the heart, HM pour Homme holds a lovely surprise, offering a bouquet of masculine flowers—Bulgarian roses, powdery jasmines and a few precious irises. A heart so floral and, above all, so rare in a men's perfume. Nevertheless, these pretty flowers soon take on the sensual, gourmand depths of tonka bean, green moss, sandalwood and vanilla, delightfully combining the utmost sophistication of flowers with extreme masculinity.
