Green Irish Tweed

Green Irish Tweed is the men’s eau de parfum that Creed dates to 1985 and credits to Olivier Creed, a fougère the house ties to its tailoring past and to the Irish landscape. Peppermint, verbena and lemon open onto geranium, lavender and violet, resting on sandalwood, cedar, Ambroxan and oakmoss.

Creed builds Green Irish Tweed in three tiers: peppermint, verbena, lemon, bergamot and galbanum in the top; geranium, lavender and violet in the heart; sandalwood, cedar, Ambroxan and oakmoss in the base. Geranium and lavender carry the fougère accord that gives the fragrance its family.

Peppermint, verbena and citrus in the top

Creed opens Green Irish Tweed on bergamot, lemon and verbena, refreshed by a breath of peppermint in its own words. Galbanum, a green resin, completes the top tier of the published notes, without further comment from the house.

Geranium, lavender and violet in the heart

For Creed, the heart sets a fresh, green geranium against a fresh, aromatic lavender. Violet joins them, flowers and leaves included in the description the house circulates in the United Kingdom, which also specifies an Egyptian geranium.

Woods, Ambroxan and oakmoss in the base

In the base, cedar, sandalwood, oakmoss and Ambroxan intertwine to leave, in the house’s words, a woody, almost arboreal impression. Ambroxan, a synthetic amber molecule, has taken the place of ambergris in the published notes.

The notes of the past

The notes long circulated by the house were fewer: lemon, verbena and peppermint in the top, violet leaf in the heart, Florentine iris, Mysore sandalwood and ambergris in the base. Neither iris nor ambergris appears in the notes published today.

What the label declares

The label declares twelve ingredients: alcohol, fragrance, water and nine scent compounds subject to declaration, limonene, linalool, alpha-isomethyl ionone, hydroxycitronellal, citral, geraniol, citronellol, benzyl benzoate and coumarin. Limonene and citral echo the lemon and verbena, geraniol and citronellol the geranium.
