Costa Azzurra: The new fragrance from Tom Ford Tom Ford, or Thomas Carlyle Ford by his real name, was born on August 27, 1961 in Austin, Texas. While he could have drawn on his American origins to create fragrances, he far prefers to immerse us in an entirely different place.
In 2021, Tom Ford decided to take us on a journey by presenting a new fragrance, seemingly coming straight from the Mediterranean. For him, an American, this represents a long journey, and a way of sharing the emotion felt upon discovering this sun-kissed land, now dear to his heart. Aromatic, woody and resinous, Tom Ford's Costa Azzurra is unlike any other and delivers a very distinctive scent. To achieve this, it relies on numerous ingredients from the garrigue that are not commonly used in fragrance compositions. The sun-kissed, luxurious side of the Costa Azzurra bottle
Tom Ford's Costa Azzurra is presented in a bottle dominated by sun-kissed yellow. After all, to evoke the sun's rays over the Mediterranean, it could hardly have been otherwise. Its transparent glass reflects a blazing yellow juice, while several golden elements illuminate its visual. Its gold lacquer first appears on its cap. This is also echoed by the label bearing its name. Metallic and shimmering, it reflects light while lending the whole a more dazzling effect. It is also on this label that the names Tom Ford and Costa Azzurra appear, directly engraved in relief.
A rounded case synonymous with softness
For this fragrance, Tom Ford this time chooses a fully cylindrical case. This shape is found first in its glass base, but also in its cap. Through this roundness, Tom Ford evokes several elements at once. First, it is about embodying softness and generosity. Then, to echo the sun, this bottle could only be round. This heavenly body is undeniably circular. Finally, note that, in nature, nothing is ever square. Only the hand of man is capable of shaping geometric forms with clean, precise edges. The bottle of Costa Azzurra is therefore conceived as though it were a natural creation.
An echo of the previous Black Orchid bottle
Beyond these elements, you have no doubt already noticed the numerous vertical ridges covering the entirety of Tom Ford's bottle. Those familiar with the house know this well: it is a hallmark of the designer. His ridges are very often used on his bottles. Indeed, with its golden side and its lines rising toward the sky, the bottle of Costa Azzurra clearly recalls that of the previous Black Orchid. As a reminder, this juice was born in 2020, shining brightly with its golden hue and resembling a small apothecary vial entirely lacquered in a golden shade. Tom Ford thus strives to preserve a certain consistency across his various creations, while giving Costa Azzurra a new world entirely its own.
