1881 Essence is the men’s eau de parfum that Cerruti adds to its 1881 line. The house sets a gin accord and black pepper against a heart of lavender, geranium and supple leather, over a base of Virginia cedar, tonka bean and amber. It is meant for a modern man, self-assured and magnetic.
1881 Essence opens with the tonic, aromatic freshness of a gin accord, mixed with the burning brightness of black pepper. The energetic notes of yerba mate absolute lead to a floral aromatic heart of lavender and geranium.
Supple Leather, Cedar and Amber
Gin, black pepper and yerba mate hold the top; lavender, geranium and leather form the heart; cedar, tonka bean and amber make up the base. The leather accord, with its supple and seductive inflections, brings elegance and warmth.
The base asserts, according to the house, a resolutely masculine signature: Virginia cedarwood blends with creamy tonka bean absolute, and amber adds a resinous depth.
What the Label Declares
After alcohol, fragrance and water come tetramethyl acetyloctahydronaphthalenes, woody and ambery, and vanillin. Virginia cedar oil, limonene, patchouli oil and linalyl acetate also hold the first ranks.
It also lists linalool, coumarin, benzyl salicylate, pinene and alpha-isomethyl ionone, as well as lemon peel oil, geranium oil, eugenol and geraniol. Lavender oil, sandalwood oil and santalol appear further down.
Four UV filters complete the formula: ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, ethylhexyl salicylate and butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane. Four colorants close the list: red 4 (CI 14700), red 33 (CI 17200), yellow 5 (CI 19140) and blue 1 (CI 42090).
