Under the christening name of Kenzo by Kenzo, and a year later Ça sent beau, the couturier's very first fragrance is floral and fruity, light and sparkling. Ça sent beau, the very first Kenzo perfume… or almost!

For many, the pretty floral Ça sent beau is considered the first Kenzo perfume. Yet this is a significant mistake, since it was in 1980 that Kenzo's very first fragrance was released, named King Kong. However, as might have been expected, the couturier was taken to court over the use of this name, which referred to the film about the giant monstrous ape. He lost the lawsuit and was forced to withdraw the perfume from the market...

After this significant commercial setback, Kenzo waited until 1988 to offer a new perfume, which would simply be named Kenzo, then Ça sent beau. The pretty fragrance, with its delicate bottle, was launched with a striking advertising campaign featuring a little girl standing next to the bottle, which appears gigantic beside her. Not only was the Kenzo perfume line still unknown, but Kenzo also took the bold gamble of not identifying a specific type of woman with this lovely Ça sent beau.

In the end, the rather daring marketing choices made for Ça sent beau proved successful, and the light, silky fragrance was worn by many devotees of Kenzo's poetic, enchanting style.

Ça sent beau, a perfume-poem, a perfume like a bouquet of flowers

The bottle of Ça sent beau (as well as that of Le monde est beau) came from a single, unique meeting between the sculptor Serge Mansau and the couturier Kenzo Takada. Legend has it that this precious bottle was created in 30 minutes, thanks to a glass pebble placed on a table and a peony flower set on top of it.

The inspiration was there, and the bottle for Ça sent beau was born!

Ça sent beau, created by Françoise Caron, opens with fresh, powerful top notes of Aldehydes and Bergamot. Then Jasmine, Rose and Carnation offer a refined floral cocktail, into which blend happily the sweet, juicy accents of Pear, Apple and Plum notes. Ylang-ylang lends its soft, sun-kissed note, and Tuberose its deep, mysterious facets, to this sparkling heart of flowers and fruit. Patchouli, Oakmoss and Labdanum combine to bring sensual, mysterious depth to this bright, radiant heart, further enhanced with Vanilla for an even more gourmand touch!
