Cherry blossom
Cherry blossom, an emblem of Japan. If you are fond of cherries in summer, you may be disappointed. Flowering cherry trees are different from the ones so loved for their cherries. They do, however, offer a true feast for the eyes and a spectacular bloom. The phenomenon is now famous worldwide, and more and more tourists travel to Japan each year to witness this traditional event that beautifies the landscape. Japanese flowering cherry trees are called sakura by the locals. They are celebrated in spring, when they bloom, during the Hanami festivals. Today, there are around 600 different varieties of flowering cherry tree. Each of them belongs to the rose family. Their color can vary widely, ranging from white to red, through many shades of pink. Similarly, the shape of the petals can also vary. Cherry blossoms grow on a tree measuring 10 to 15 meters tall, with light gray bark. Once the flowers fall, the leaves emerge and take on a bright green color, before turning golden yellow in autumn.
The symbolism of cherry blossom
Beyond the beauty of its bloom, the cherry tree is celebrated every year in Japan for its symbolic significance, rooted in the philosophy of Mono No Aware, which embraces the beauty of fleeting things. Indeed, cherry blossoms all bloom simultaneously and then wither in record time. Their average blooming period lasts barely two weeks. Their time on earth is extremely fleeting, yet this does not prevent them from inspiring admiration. The Japanese see in the cherry blossom a message: life is short, so one must make the most of it. When cherry blossom season arrives, the Japanese take the opportunity to engage in genuine introspection and reflection. They take the time to think about their plans and see in it a symbol of renewal and happiness to come.
Cherry blossom in perfumery
When incorporated into perfumes, cherry blossom carries a very poetic message. Light and airy, it also transports the wearer to the other side of the world, offering a journey to the heart of Asia in a single breath. Cherry blossoms are infinitely soft and highly feminine. Linked to an ancestral tradition, they are timeless and thus appeal to every generation of women. Their scent brings out a fragrance that is both sweet and bitter. Cherry blossom pairs wonderfully with all other flowers, as well as with fruity scents. It should be noted, however, that its refined lightness differs greatly from the scent of the cherry itself. The evocation of cherry blossom recalls the dreamlike atmosphere of a Japanese stroll in the shade of these trees, on a beautiful spring day.
