Hermès

At first glance, the worlds of fashion, perfumery, and horseback riding are not necessarily sectors that share a connection. Yet Hermès is a house that has managed to combine these three worlds to create a luxury brand of worldwide renown.

Hermès, more than 170 years of heritage

It was in 1837 that Thierry Hermès founded a factory for saddles and harnesses for horses. Indeed, at that time, it was a thriving industry since horses were still the most common means of transportation. Very quickly, the house of Hermès made a name for itself, building a wealthy clientele. In 1878, Charles Émile Hermès took over from his father. He decided to expand the business into leather goods, offering leather bags and satchels for riders. Once again, this venture proved highly successful. Little by little, Hermès diversified its activities at an accelerating pace, offering, from the 1920s onward, collections of travel accessories as well as gloves, belts, jewelry, watches, and even dog collars. Hermès clothing, for its part, made its appearance in the 1930s, with a strategy focused more particularly on women's creations. Likewise, certain Hermès pieces became iconic during this period, such as the Kelly bag of 1935 or the silk scarf of 1937. This success continued thanks to Jean-René Guerrand and Robert Dumas. It was indeed Jean-René Guerrand who had the idea of developing the Hermès fragrance branch, starting in the 1950s.

Fragrances synonymous with spirit and freedom at the house of Hermès

The first Hermès fragrance was created by the nose Edmond Roudnitska. It was born in 1951 and was named L'Eau d'Hermès. Today, it is considered a true legend. It is beautifully rooted in the history and tradition of Hermès. It gives off a soft scent of supple leather, enhanced with wood and spices. It was followed by numerous other best-sellers, each echoing in its own way the world of horseback riding. Thus, Calèche, a timeless, feminine, and woody fragrance, was born in 1961. Équipages, for its part, made its appearance in 1970, before being followed by Amazone in 1974. Hermès is a house that likes to present the image of an almost novelistic character. To this end, in 1986 it created the fragrance Bel Ami, paying tribute to the character from the eponymous novel by Guy de Maupassant. Likewise, Hermès never forgets its history and very often references its heritage, as when the house created, in 1995, the fragrance 24 Faubourg, referring to the first address of the Hermès store in Paris. Of course, it is now simply impossible to discuss the house without mentioning the famous Terre d'Hermès of 2006. This fragrance is a true sensory experience paying tribute to the natural elements and encouraging men to refocus on themselves. Today, it would be simply impossible to list every fragrance signed Hermès, so vast is the collection. The best way to make it your own is to take a closer look for yourself...
