Santal 33

Sandalwood, a velvety and warm wood, gives its name to Santal 33 and occupies the heart tier, alongside cardamom, iris, violet, cedar and leather. Launched by Le Labo in 2011, the eau de parfum is the work of Frank Voelkl and belongs to the woody family, with a base of musk carrying warm, animalic nuances.

The heart

The heart brings together sandalwood, a velvety wood carrying warmth, and cardamom, a spice with a clean freshness. Iris lends a buttery powderiness with accents of violet. Violet pairs powderiness with a waxy greenness. Cedar evokes pencil shavings and resin, while leather conjures smoke, tar and tobacco.

The base

In the base, musk takes on a woody, warm tonality, with an animalic facet. In perfumery, the term generally refers to materials with a sweet, persistent odor, today most often synthetic, which serve as a foundation for compositions.

A woody family

The woody family generally groups compositions built around woods such as sandalwood, cedar or vetiver. In Santal 33, this character comes through the sandalwood and cedar of the heart tier, as well as through the woody tonality attributed to the musk in the base.
