Empressa, by Penhaligon’s, dates from 2014. Blood orange, peach and bergamot animate the top, rose, blackberry and blackcurrant make up the heart, while patchouli, sugar and musk occupy the base.
Blood orange, fruity and reminiscent of raspberry, peach, sweet and velvety, and bergamot, fresh and fruity, occupy the top: a shared fruity register connects them, between velvety sweetness and freshness.
Rose, warm and honeyed, blackberry, woody and sweet, and blackcurrant, green and sulfurous, share the heart. The honeyed warmth of the rose sits alongside the sharp greenness of the blackcurrant.
Patchouli, earthy and damp, sugar, praline-like, and musk, animalic and warm, dominate the base. The warmth of the musk meets the praline-like sweetness of the sugar, while the patchouli keeps its earthy dampness.
