A floral with spicy and resinous accents, Carmina pairs rose, violet and peony with a base of myrrh, incense and olibanum. Carmina, an Eau de Parfum from the house of Creed released in 2023, opens on cherry, saffron and pepper, and draws its stated inspiration from the haute couture fashion sketches made by Henry Creed.

Top

Cherry opens on an almond and pit facet. Saffron brings spices shot through with accents of leather and tar. Pepper, also spicy, stands out for its dryness and a herbaceous touch.

Heart

Rose appears here warm, honeyed and waxy; violet, powdery, retains a waxy greenness. Peony turns tender, between rose and lily of the valley. Cashmere wood adds wood, sweetness and warmth, while saffron and pink pepper carry the spices further, the latter with sweetness.

Base

Musk here combines wood, an animalic nuance and warmth. Myrrh brings a warm, sweet balsam. Incense plays on camphor, wax and spices, and olibanum, the name of the resin from which incense is drawn, brings wood, minerality and spices.

Floral family

Assigned to the floral family, Carmina owes this classification to its heart tier: rose, violet and peony. A floral is built around petals; here, wax, honey and powder color these flowers, which saffron, peppers and resins come to spice.

What the label declares

The label declares citronellol, geraniol and linalool, common constituents of rose essence, as well as alpha-isomethyl ionone, a molecule with a violet odor. Eugenol and isoeugenol evoke clove; limonene and citral fall within the citrus register, and farnesol is found in several floral essences.
