Orange

Orange is the fruit of orange trees, a tree of several species of the rutaceae family. The orange tree originated in China. It is believed that the orange is a hybrid and that it is the fruit of a cross between a mandarin and a grapefruit. Today, the main orange producers are Brazil, Mexico, the United States, India, Spain and Egypt. Orange has a juicy flesh, separated into segments by a thin skin. Orange was long a rare product that was only consumed at Christmas. Sweet orange essence is obtained by cold expression of the fruit's peel.

Orange, a tangy candy fragrance

Orange gives off a sweet, fresh, very tangy scent. Like its “Citrus” olfactory family, orange offers compositions joyful, playful, bright and effervescent fragrances. Orange notes are fresh and light. However, they are volatile notes, which do not last long on skin. For this reason, they are combined with stronger notes, such as animalic notes known to be excellent fixatives. This is why orange notes are mainly found as top notes, and often in the composition of floral perfumes, such as in Le Paradis de Nina by Nina Ricci. Here, orange is combined with mandarin (as a top note), which accentuates the effervescent, sweet side. This perfume, with its apple-shaped bottle, is an invitation to contemporary fairy tales. The combination of orange with other olfactory families in perfumery

Orange, along with the “Citrus” olfactory family, pairs perfectly well with floral notes. In these compositions, orange generously offers its sweet, tangy fragrances. Orange also combines with woody notes. This is the case in the men's perfume Cologne Blanche by Dior. Here, orange, again as a top note (with rosemary), is combined with orange blossom as a heart note, and vanilla and sweet almond as base notes. Dior, wishing to reinvent eau de Cologne here, chose a soft, amber fragrance, a classic brown… A sober and pure masculine perfume. Orange also pairs with chypre notes such as patchouli or sandalwood. This is the case in the perfume 24 Faubourg by Hermès. Orange and bergamot as top notes bring an effervescent sillage. The heart is mainly floral with iris, tiare flowers and jasmine, which offers a very particular radiance.
