Pink pepper

Pink pepper is the fruit of the schinus molle. This tree of the Anacardiaceae family is native to South America. Also called the Peruvian pepper tree or bourbon pepper tree, the schinus molle is an evergreen tree with glossy dark green foliage and a scent of turpentine. The berries of the schinus molle are the size of a peppercorn, and they are pink. Very common on the island of Réunion, pink pepper is recognized as a spice with a peppery, piquant and slightly anise-like taste. In perfumery, pink pepper essential oil is used, obtained by distillation.
