Issey Miyake's conquest of Europe

Issey Miyake was born in 1938 in Hiroshima and grew up in Japan in the particular context of the post-war period. After a difficult childhood, marked by illness and the death of his mother, Issey Miyake forged a strong character with an unshakable optimism. In 1958, he decided to study design in Tokyo, at the University of Fine Arts. It was there that he became interested in fashion and clothing manufacturing. From the 60s onward, Issey Miyake became an artist in his own right and was firmly determined to revolutionize the world of fashion. To do this, he left Japan and arrived in Paris in 1965. He entered the world of haute couture houses and notably joined Guy Laroche and Givenchy, two houses that allowed him to assert his own style. Issey Miyake also confided that his early years in Paris were decisive for him and that they served as a springboard for his future career. Indeed, it was there that he drew on the hippie style of 1969 before returning to Japan to create his first collection. There, he stood out as a revolutionary, creating couture pieces from any base material. His ingenuity immediately dazzled the public.

Nevertheless, despite great success in the world of couture, it was not until the 90s that Issey Miyake decided to expand his activity. Thus, he created his very first fragrance in 1992, staying in the same line as his couture creations. Indeed, every product from the house of Issey Miyake aims to be avant-garde, presenting itself as a clever blend of art, architecture and boldness. Issey Miyake's first fragrance was aimed at women. It was an aquatic floral inspired by a Japanese bath and named l'Eau d'Issey. It was followed, in 1994, by its version for men, then by L'Eau Bleue d'Issey in 2004 and by l'Eau d'Issey pour Homme Intense. For several years now, Issey Miyake has been offering scented variations revolving around femininity, art and nature. Indeed, it is at the heart of nature that Issey Miyake finds his inspiration. He uses nature to express his emotions and feelings. Likewise, Issey Miyake never stops working in the territory of exploration. Each of his fragrances embarks on a kind of personal and spiritual quest. Also, in keeping with this love of nature, Issey Miyake recently launched the #Explorenature project in the form of a video showing how man interacts with his environment and emerges strengthened from it.
