Ultra Male

Ultra Male by Jean Paul Gaultier: a fragrance built entirely on virility. If Jean-Paul Gaultier is an artist defined in many ways, he remains inseparable from his emblematic sailor top. He elevated this garment to superstar status and declines it in every possible form, whether in couture or in perfume.

Le Male is a cult fragrance in men's perfumery, the best-seller of the Jean-Paul Gaultier house. Created in 1995, it has been winning over men's hearts across the planet for several decades now. Yet, far from resting on this achievement, creator Jean-Paul Petit decided to give it a worthy successor twenty years later, named Ultra Male. Although this is not the first reinterpretation of this legendary fragrance, it must be acknowledged as probably one of the most intense and virile. So, what is really behind this display of power? Here is our review.

Ultra Male by Jean-Paul Gaultier, a concentrate of virility

The first, and not the least, of its strengths: Ultra Male has no shortage of character, and this shows in every respect. If you are a man in search of virility, and of a fragrance to assert your natural charisma, Ultra Male has many strengths to win you over. According to the creator, it is the tough guy who will sweep you off your feet, an intense eau de toilette, a tug-of-war between power and gourmand character. This time, this 2015 fragrance clearly bets on intensity. It tells the new story of a man who loves to display his boldness for all to see. When he steps off his ship, he does so with a swagger. Ultra Male by Jean-Paul Gaultier imagines itself dressed in leather, like an adventurer ready to do anything to sweep women off their feet.

The new bottle marked with Jean-Paul Gaultier's red ink

As always, Jean-Paul Gaultier's fragrance comes in a bottle shaped like a torso. However, this one darkens. It now takes on a new, more hypnotic bluish-black reflection. Not without a touch of humor, Jean-Paul Gaultier once again decides to present his perfume bottle in tin-can-shaped packaging. This is perfectly matched to the midnight-blue color of its bottle. More than ever, the Jean-Paul Gaultier man carries a dark side. Yet this only heightens desire further. Its name, Ultra Male, is written in red lettering on its sides, paired with a sailor's anchor. Naturally, the world of the sailor is omnipresent. It is the signature of the entire collection, but one must admit that it never grows tiresome.

A new intensity signed Francis Kurkdjian

Finally, in terms of scent, Ultra Male by Jean-Paul Gaultier is an intense fragrance that nonetheless does not lack subtlety. Still created by perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, it presents a new lavender that is more sulfurous, more mature and aromatic. In perfect harmony with its bottle, Ultra Male becomes darker. It is also spiked with a zesty lemon and a sulfurous pear. Cinnamon comes to spice up the whole, while being enhanced by the presence of sage. Finally, the black Aztec flower rounds out its base, blending with a black, amber-tinged vanilla, as well as cedar and patchouli woods.
