Arabians Tonka

Tonka bean gives its name to Arabians Tonka and appears at two tiers of the composition, with its toasted, almondy and caramelized accents. Montale launched the Eau de Parfum in 2019 in the oriental family: saffron and bergamot open the accord, oud and rose hold the heart, and a base of leather, oakmoss and musks extends it.

Saffron and bergamot

The opening pairs saffron, a spice with leathery and tar-like facets, with bergamot, a citrus fruit whose zest brings a fruity note, lightly sweet and full of freshness. Saffron, drawn from the stigmas of a crocus, ranks among the most costly raw materials in the perfumer's palette.

Oud, roses and tonka

The heart brings together oud, a woody note with accents of incense and animalic depth, two roses — one warm, honeyed and waxy, the other Bulgarian rose with an intense, fruity floral character — and toasted, almondy, caramelized tonka bean. Bergamot returns here, fruity and fresh, alongside a woody, animalic and warm musk.

Leather and moss base

The base rests on oakmoss, a lichen with earthy, damp, almost musty facets, and on a smoky leather where tar and tobacco come through. Tonka bean and musk extend into this base, joined by white musks with coppery, animalic and carnal nuances.

An amber oriental

Classed among the orientals, Arabians Tonka draws this character from warm, dense raw materials: caramelized tonka, resinous oud, musk and smoky leather. This family has long favored balsams, spices and dark woods, which the opening saffron underscores here.

What the label declares

The list declares vanillin, a vanilla-scented molecule, limonene, linalool and linalyl acetate, present in bergamot, as well as bitter orange, lemon and Virginia cedar essences. Citronellol, geraniol, geranyl acetate and rose ketones relate to the roses, while two woody and musky molecules complete the whole.
