Spicy
Two families of spices can nevertheless be distinguished, warm and cold. When speaking of warm spices, reference is made to cinnamon, nutmeg or clove. Cardamom and ginger correspond to cold spices. Warm spices bring sensuality to a fragrance, while cold spices bring sharp, modern notes. One could almost add another spice family with cumin, which brings more of an animalic note. Perfumes with spicy notes exist as much for men as for women. These are assertive and truly powerful perfumes. Among the best known, mention can be made of the legendary Opium, by Yves Saint-Laurent, which still holds as much success with women
Fine spicy pairings
Spicy notes are very often paired with other notes in the creation of a perfume. The “spicy ones”, as they are called, are in most cases the signature of a great creator who likes to surprise. The first spicy perfume was Shalimar by Guerlain, created in 1925. For this one, the top note is bergamot, to which jasmine, iris and rose are added in the heart notes. Finally, in the base notes there are vanilla, caramel, tonka beans, amber and patchouli… Moreover, the richness of spices pairs very well with floral or fruity notes. The perfume Fidji by Guy Laroche is a perfect example of this! A floral/spicy that has won over millions of women. Among the spicy notes, sandalwood, white musk or clove can be recognized. These are subtly paired with floral notes such as violet, jasmine, rose and hyacinth… A truly incredible result!
Very little used at the beginning of perfume creation, the spicy note is today known and recognized for its captivating effect. Perfumes with spicy fragrances are defined as warm, sharp, modern, sensual and above all exceptional! Paired with different olfactory families, spice brings surprising and above all very feminine compositions. Spice is added to numerous fragrances, such as floral, fruity, woody or citrus. Today’s creators have understood this well… The results give absolutely captivating perfumes, greatly appreciated by women.
