Sugar

Sugar is a carbohydrate found in pure form in fruits and vegetables. Sugar is mainly extracted from sugar cane and sugar beet. Sugar is considered an energy fuel, as it is necessary for the various cells of our body (muscles, brain, heart, red blood cells). There are two types of sugar, sucrose, which is a food substance, and glucose, which is the result of the transformation of sucrose in our body. While the use of sugar is currently highly controversial, sugar is sweet and comforting, as it echoes the happy moments of our childhood.

Because smell is inseparable from taste, perfumers one day decided to tackle sweets… Red fruits, vanilla, praline, marshmallow, caramel, licorice, chocolate or even cotton candy! When it comes to sweets, anything goes. Thierry Mugler is the forerunner of gourmand fragrances. With Angel, released in 1992, Thierry Mugler innovated and paved the way for gourmand fragrances. In 2014, Thierry Mugler released Angel, Eau Sucrée, a fragrance that sold out in no time. Indeed, sugar attracts our sense of smell, even when it is harmoniously hidden in our bottles. Moreover, sugar is increasingly considered sexy. It is true that certain gourmand fragrances secretly proclaim Eat me, leaving everyone free to interpret this as they wish…

Sugar and its olfactory pairing

Sugar, master of gourmand fragrances, pairs with every olfactory family. Among the most gourmand fragrances, one naturally notes Angel, but also Guerlain's La Petite Robe Noire, famous for its cherry accord, or Lolita Lempicka's Sweet (and So Sweet) with its cherry-cocoa accord, or Viktor & Rolf's Bonbon, with its fruity-caramel accord. Men also have their own gourmand needs, notably with Diesel's Only the Brave Wild (coconut), or Kenzo's Kenzo Homme Night (mango-coconut).
