Mirabelle plum

Mirabelle plum, a flavorful little plum Mirabelle plum is the fruit of the mirabelle tree, a variety of plum tree. Unlike other fruits, there are only two main varieties of mirabelle plums, that of Metz and that of Nancy. The Metz mirabelle plum is the smaller of the two. To this day, Lorraine supplies about 80% of the world's mirabelle plum production, or around 15,000 tons per year. There, it benefits from a PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) and a Label Rouge. Nevertheless, it is also grown in Haute-Saône, in the north of Alsace, and in Quebec. This specialty has earned it the privilege of being widely celebrated. Every year, numerous mirabelle plum festivals take place. Most villages in Lorraine, near the banks of the Meuse and the Moselle, celebrate this small fruit at the end of August. In Metz, since 1947, the mirabelle plum festival has also been associated with the election of the mirabelle plum queen. Nancy and Bayon are also very well-known towns where this type of festivity takes place. Likewise, on the last Saturday of August, in the mirabelle plum orchards, numerous sporting and tasting events are organized, combining skill, physical and mental abilities, and treats of all kinds.
