The champaca flower and its legends...

Originating in the Himalayas and thus scattered between India and China, champaca offers its magnificent flowers during the monsoon and spring. Revered since the dawn of time, champaca flowers decorate temples and sacred places, offering their exquisite scents to the faithful. Hindus consider the champaca flower an offering meant to bring luck to its fortunate recipient, and young girls like to wear one of these magical flowers in their hair as a harbinger of happiness...

It is true that the delicate scents of champaca bring us intense happiness in great floral fragrances! And although the flower is rare, and therefore the raw material costly and considered a luxury, champaca essential oil is certainly one of the loveliest scented notes to offer our bottles!

Champaca, or the touch of luxury and exoticism in oriental and floral fragrances

The champaca flower was ultimately explored and used relatively recently in perfumery, particularly thanks to the success of one of the first perfumes to showcase it: J’adore.

Indeed, the magnificent and hugely successful J’adore by Dior used champaca as a heart note, pairing it with white flowers and fruity notes to achieve a sensual, vibrant fragrance that remains fresh thanks to mandarin top notes. Playing on the pairing of flowers and fruit, J’adore marks its essences by offering a glamorous juice that is both light and enveloping.

Ten years later, the renowned creator Annick Goutal likewise chose to use the champaca note in a fruity, spicy, green fragrance, Un Matin d'Orage. Champaca is paired in the heart with jasmine, gardenia and magnolia to offer a magical burst of white flowers launched by citrus and fruity top notes, before ending in a deep sillage of sandalwood. Un Matin d'Orage evokes a gust of freshness and humidity without adding so much as a drop of aquatic notes. A great fragrance...

Finally, the lovely champaca flower also flourishes, always as a heart note, in deep oriental compositions such as Sira des Indes by Jean Patou or Euphoria by Calvin Klein. Champaca brings its powerful, fragrant floral scents, gracefully holding its own against oriental spices and sandalwood. Although the flower is rare, one hopes to soon have the pleasure of discovering new fragrances as beautiful as these previous creations!
