OrientalThe rise of Calvin Klein
Calvin Klein's real name is Richer Klein. He spent his childhood in the Bronx during the post-war years. He quickly became interested in fashion design and pursued studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. There, he worked for five years for various brands and made an encounter that would mark his life. He met Nicola de Gunzburg, a businessman and editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine who decided to take him under his wing. Thanks to him, Calvin Klein quickly made a name for himself in the industry and started his own company in 1968. His simple and elegant style quickly met with immense success. What is more, recognition came in 1979 with the launch of his jeans line. In fact, Calvin Klein was the first brand to have one of its jeans photographed in Vogue. This served as a genuine springboard for the brand and immediately secured it worldwide fame. Likewise, it was in that same year that Calvin Klein decided to expand his business into perfumery.
Calvin Klein fragrances
To accompany his modern and understated outfits, Calvin Klein developed a range of fragrances. Thus, Calvin Klein for women was quickly followed by Obsession, Eternity, Escape, and Truth. Likewise, Calvin Klein has always managed to partner with prestigious ambassadors to convey its image. Among the most famous of them, Kate Moss, Scarlett Johansson, and Eva Mendes stand as favorites. Nevertheless, the success of Calvin Klein's perfumery truly owes its salvation to one fragrance in particular: the iconic CK One. It was released in 1994 and is considered the first unisex fragrance in the history of contemporary perfumery. It still ranks among the best-selling fragrances in the world today and has become the symbol of an entire generation. Since that day, Calvin Klein has been riding the wave of androgyny, a trend displayed in almost all of its advertising campaigns, all marked by subjectivity and provocation without lacking elegance.
Today, Calvin Klein has been acquired by the Philipps Van Heusen Corporation group and ranks among the most influential brands on the planet. Furthermore, its range has expanded, and Calvin Klein now encompasses multiple universes such as men's and women's fashion, perfumery, and also home goods. The artistic direction of Calvin Klein is meanwhile overseen by Francisco Cesta.
