Richard Fraysse

When asked what his favorite phrase about perfume is, perfumer Richard Fraysse answers: Dream, more dream, always dream. It must be said that he still belongs to the generation of old-school perfumers for whom perfumery is synonymous with wonder and prestige. Richard Fraysse seeks above all to achieve a certain nobility combined with a sense of dream in each of his creations. He stands far removed from the overly commercial creations of certain brands and, to that end, works for the renowned house Caron.

Richard Fraysse's predetermined path

Richard Fraysse is the heir of a great family of perfumers. Thus, since his earliest childhood, he has been immersed in the world of perfumery. In fact, he still remembers the olfactory recognition games his father organized. Yet perfumery was not immediately his field of choice. Indeed, right after obtaining his baccalaureate, Richard Fraysse did not turn straight to this path. He first chose a business school. However, his father would not hear of it and quickly urged him to start a perfume company. Aware that his son did not yet have training as a perfumer, he entrusted him with the commercial side and put him in touch with a laboratory. It was then that Richard Fraysse's taste for perfumes grew more refined. The foundations he had acquired during his childhood gradually resurfaced, and Richard Fraysse quickly understood that he had found his calling. He then took the time to discover each raw material and to blend them until achieving harmonious combinations. For him, olfactory composition is an art on par with music.

Richard Fraysse at Caron

Since 1998, Richard Fraysse has been creating perfumes for the house Caron. If he chose this house, it is because he believes it wonderfully upholds the French tradition of luxury. As such, it never restrains his creativity and allows him to craft perfumes based on high-quality raw materials. For him, Caron allows him to engage in pure creation, and within this company he enjoys extreme freedom. He himself chooses the raw materials he wants from the suppliers of his choice. While this may seem unremarkable at first glance, it must be acknowledged that this way of working has become an exception in the world of perfumery. According to him, this is nonetheless a guarantee of tradition, quality and olfactory identity. Richard Fraysse explains: at Caron, he has the good fortune to exercise his creativity in complete freedom, without being subject to marketing or budgetary constraints. He can favor rare natural essences, such as rose or jasmine absolute, in order to remain true to the great tradition of luxury perfumery. Despite advances in chemistry and the pursuit of profit, perfume must remain a luxury product, rare and precious, if it is not to lose its original purpose: to make those who wear it dream.
